Members of the Hillsboro Old Settlers Association held their annual Queens Kick-off dinner on Tuesday evening, May 12, at the Challacombe House in Hillsboro.Four young ladies will be competing for the title of this year's Old Settlers Queen, and the annual raffle ticket sales began following the dinner. Each young lady introduced herself and her sponsor and mother at the dinner. Candidates include Madison Howard, sponsored by the Hillsboro Moose Lodge; Abby Meyer, sponsored by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce; Kassidy Moore, sponsored by the Hillsboro Lions Club; and Kendra Jacob, sponsored by the Hillsboro Knights of Columbus.The 2014 Old Settlers Queen Alanna Bader will pass along her crown to the new queen during the celebration on Wednesday evening, Aug. 5, in downtown Hillsboro. Prizes for this year's raffle include a grand prize of $750 cash.First prize will be $500 cash and second prize will be $250 cash. Prizes will be awarded Wednesday evening following the queen coronation.The theme for this year's big parade will be "Remember the Past, Imagine the Future" to tie in with the efforts of the Imagine Hillsboro group. The Kiddie Parade theme will be announced soon. Both parades will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6.Entertainment for this year's celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 5, following the queen coronation, The Harmans will open up for Nashville star David Kroll. On Thursday, Aug. 6, entertainment will be the season nine American Idol winner Lee DeWyze.
